Today, July 7, 2025, that same fighting spirit is back. But this time, it’s the Gen Z generation leading the way.

Kenya’s young people have once again taken to the streets, not against colonial rulers, not against one-party dictatorship, but against a new kind of oppression:

  • Police brutality, Corruption

  • The high cost of living, Broken promises by politicians

It all exploded after the death of Albert Ojwang, a young blogger and teacher who died in police custody just last month. This tragic death reignited anger, just like the sparks that lit the first Saba Saba.

The people out there today, marching, holding signs, lighting bonfires, chanting “Ruto Must Go,” are the grandchildren of the generation that fought in 1990. The bloodline of resistance runs deep.
