  • It’s July 7, 2025, and across Kenya, people are out on the streets for Saba Saba protests in Kenya. What started as a historic democracy rally has now turned into a youth‑led movement, with Gen Z voicing against police brutality, corruption, high living costs, and calling for Ruto’s resignation.

  • Today’s protests began after the death of blogger Albert Ojwang in police custody on June 30, sparking fresh outrage.

Where It’s Happening

  • Major flashpoints: Nairobi, Kangemi, Nakuru, Nyeri, Embu – in total 17 counties.

  • In Nairobi, heavy police blockades shut roads, malls, and schools. Riot cops with tear gas, water cannon, and even live ammo have clashed with protestors.

  • Young protestors are out with whistles, placards, bonfires, and chants like “RutoMustGo”. They’re here “till evening”, claiming they won’t back down.

  • This is Gen Z activism powered by social media and street solidarity, echoing the #RutoMustGo wave from 2024
